On Sunday 24th June 2018 Virgin East Coast will end their operations as they give their franchise back to the goverment. Replacing Virgin ECML will be the London & North Eastern Railway.

Virgin has been operating the ECML since 2015. The general maneger of Virgin East Coast has said that 'it has been a plesure working with Virgin and meeting the passengers'. We currently believe that Virgin is giving their franchise back because they are not making enough profit. The Department For Transport will now be operating the ECML.

As said above the Department For Transport will be operating the ECML therefore be operating the LNER. The LNER will be launching on Sunday 24th June 2018. All the Virgin ECML Facebook/Instagram/Twitter accounts have been rebranded to LNER's accounts. The LNER is stressing that it will be the same service, same trains and the same people so you have no need to change your travel plans.

From the heritage view they are outraged that the LNER is in red. As many of you know the LNER was apart of the big four and their trademark colour was Blue. The big four has almost been re-rectified, we have Southern Railway, Great Western Railway, (Newest) London & North Eastern Railway, now all we need is the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) to complete the collection.

We hope that the LNER is welcome into the rail world and many trainspotters are sad to see Virgin East Coast but are looking forward to see the LNER.
